Addressing Water Resources

Policy

As an environmentally conscious company that recognizes the importance of protecting water resources, Tokyu Construction strives to prevent soil and water pollution, and promote other initiatives aimed at environmental conservation and environmental impact reduction, as stipulated in our “Environmental Policy.”

Management system

When we commence a construction project, we always hold a meeting of our relevant business divisions, branch offices, and work sites to discuss the start of construction. At this meeting, we assess the environmental aspects of the construction project and confirm the environmental laws and regulations that we need to comply with.

As for water resource management, we examine the risk of lowering the groundwater table or blocking the flow of groundwater during construction, and we discuss and decide on measures to counter any risks. We also check on legal standards for the treatment and discharge of sewage and subsoil water released during construction, and we discuss and decide on suitable treatment methods that comply with the Water Pollution Prevention Act. During construction and on completion of the project, the relevant branch office monitors the implementation of these measures and keeps management records relating to water resources.

Water resources initiatives

Reducing water usage through water recycling

Operating water-recycling hand-washing units

We operate water-recycling hand-washing units on our work sites to reuse water resources and improve water utilization efficiency.

Controlling rainwater outflow and rainwater use with rainwater storage tanks

AquaPla construction method

The AquaPla construction method enables the creation of moist urban environments through the effective use of rainwater, outflow control, and groundwater recharge, by temporarily storing rainwater in underground spaces and allowing it to seep into the ground.

Example of a rainwater storage tank
Examples:

- Use for rainwater storage and car washing in a railway car manufacturing plant

- Rainwater storage in the parking area of a large commercial facility to control outflow to surrounding areas

Terrapond method

With the Terrapond method, rainwater can be stored under a planting base and supplied using capillary action. Utilizing rainwater in this way makes it possible to improve outside temperature buffering and rainwater retention, and to reduce greenery maintenance costs.

Examples:

- Use for greenbelts at a square in front of a railway station

- Use for greenbelts for multistory parking and on rooftops of commercial buildings

- Use for greenbelts along road median strips
